Description
Deep Cleaner is a powerful remover and cleaner, free from solvents and paraffin, that strips out new, old and encrusted oils from exterior wooden surfaces and also cleans severely weathered wood. Biodegradable, Deep Cleaner is suitable for environmentally sensitive areas, as it’s gel consistency means it will not run making it ideal for use on vertical surfaces.
Easy to apply and fast acting, Deep Cleaner quickly and efficiently removes the millglaze, which is created in the manufacturing process, from the surface of new wood, thus improving the penetration and adhesion of a finish.
Ideal uses for Deep Cleaner
- Can be used on all exterior woods, softwoods and hardwoods
- Biodegradable and water washable
- Cleans weathered woods
- Can be applied to horizontal or vertical surfaces due to it’s gel like consistency
- Removes millglaze, therefore improving the overall finish
Surface preparation
Remove any loose and flaking finish.
Brush off any physical surface contamination e.g. moss, general dirt etc.
Application
Use as is, Do Not dilute.
Work large areas in zones.
Always work in direction of the grain. Do Not use a wire brush.
After rinsing, immediately treat the surface with Deck Cleaner while still wet.
Allow wood to dry thoroughly, 2-3 days before refinishing.
Test Procedure
Apply Deep Cleaner.
Allow to work 5 minutes.
Scrub surface to see if finish or dirt is lifting.
If lifting commence with job, if not wait a further 5 minutes and test again, continue this process up to a maximum of 20 minutes.
Stripping and cleaning
Work in areas that can be completed in 5-20 minutes, then move on to the next area until the entire surface is stripped or clean.
Apply Deep cleaner to the area to be stripped or cleaned and allow to work.
After time established in the test, scrub the surface with a stiff nylon brush, if required flush with water at the same time OR use a power washer (max 60 bars/870 psi).
Thoroughly rinse the surface after stripping/cleaning including any adjacent areas, with fresh clean water.
NB: The use of hot water makes the job easier.
Reducing millglaze
Apply Deep Cleaner to the area to be treated.
Allow to work 10-15 minutes depending on wood type.
Scrub surface with stiff nylon scrubbing brush, if required flush with water at the same time OR use a power washer (max 60 bars/870 psi).
After removing the millglaze, thoroughly rinse the surface including any adjacent areas with fresh clean water.
Clean up
Due to Deep Cleaner being made with biodegradable ingredients, all you need for clean up is water.
Things to remember
Always carry out a preliminary test prior to commencing the job, to determine the contact time necessary for stripping or cleaning the wood.
When stripping or cleaning areas that have caulking, ALWAYS carry out a test by applying Deep Cleaner to a small area and allow it to sit for 20 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing off to determine that there is no reaction.
Wear chemical resistant gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing.
Always treat stripped and cleaned surfaces with Deck Cleaner to neutralise the surface and restore the wood’s colour.
Woods rich in tannins e.g. Cedar, Oak, Teak, Mahogany etc may darken with Deep Cleaner. Where Deep Cleaner has darkened the wood DO NOT allow it to dry, prior to using Deck Cleaner.
Cover and protect everything you do not wish to strip or clean, including any aluminium surfaces.
When stripping or cleaning vertical surfaces, work from bottom to top to avoid streaking.
Apply between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F). Do not apply in direct sunlight or to a hot surface.
Do not allow Deep Cleaner to dry on the surface. If drying occurs dampen with a mist application of water.
